Many think Snoop Dogg may be jacking the Old Spice Guy’s style by posting video responses to his Twitter followers (the famous ones, at least), but Snoop isn’t ripping-off anybody. “Been doin these vids long before the old spice guy jacked my swagger,” tweeted the hip hop legend. “Keep a close watch we just gettin started!” Sure, Snoop is doing this mostly to promote his compilation album My #1 Priority, but the Old Spice Guy was promoting Old Spice and that didn’t stop anybody from enjoying his videos. Snoop will take on a new executive role this week. On May 29, Tha Doggfather will be named President of Serious Pimp, a clothing and sunglasses line that blends hip-hop and Mixed Martial Arts cultures, with which Snoop has recently become involved. Snoop has beenpromoting the e company's eyewear since last December, while his spiritual advisor and former pimp, Bishop Don "Magic" Juan was appointed Serious Pimp's Chairman of the Board early last week. The announcement about Snoop's new title is expected to be made at Caesar's Palace before Saturday's Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Rashad Evans UFC match. According to Serious Pimp's CEO Damian Kutzner, Snoop's status in the music industry, combined with Serious Pimp's leverage in the Mixed Martial Arts community will help build Serious Pimp's brand. "Serious Pimp got its start sponsoring MMA fighters in their bouts," stated Kutzner. "Ironically, 'Rampage' was one of the first fighters we got behind. Snoop Dogg's attendance at this fight shows the company's connection to the past and its vision for the future." After the fight, the Doggfather will be performing at the LAX Nighclub in celebration of his new title. |

Katy Perry's "California Gurls" is Robin S's "Show Me Love" 17 years on. With that vibe-toned synth line, the '90s dancefloor drum track, the diva-ish "ohs" at the tail of the pre-chorus and the slap bass, this new single from the "I Kissed a Girl" singer is a welcomed golden era rehash, Golden Coast style. Listen to the track streaming on Katy Perry's website. The pros of this summer jam include that funky, subtle Jackson 5-ish guitar lick that titters all over the chorus, rolling the thing even further decades back. Perry maintains her coy, flirtatious persona by keeping the clothes on and her hands up in the track, emphasis on the party and less so the party in one's pants (Sex on the Beach is a drink name, guuuuys, get it?). Lyrically, it's delightfully mindless, a generic "rep" of all things Californian and a double-dose of Snoop Dogg love. Consider Miley's "Party in the U.S.A." flag properly folded and stowed. Although, one metaphor doesn't quite hold "up": isn't a melting popsicle a bad thing? Oh and laser sound effects. Man, did I miss those. The cons: Snoop's raps are ridiculous. Just about anybody could be making those rhymes, and in the same manner, rendering his contributions dead on impact. "Summertime's everything!" Really, Snoop, really? That his giggleabout seven seconds from the end. Sounds precisely the same as Pitbull's trademark laugh, which now is as distinct and cheesy as the Wilhelm_scream. We hope Perry collected a little pocket skrill for the Jeep name-checks. Beyond that, this is a serious summer-themed money-maker, the first single from Perry as-yet-untitled album, likely due this summer from Capitol |

Snoop Dogg is to record a duet with British singer Susan Boyle, the Sun reported Monday. The US star, 38, has been a fan since Boyle shot to fame on Britain's Got Talent reality TV show last year.
The Scottish singer, 49, dubbed SuBo by fans, took America by storm after her audition became an internet hit.
Now controversial hip hop singer Snoop has revealed he is deciding what to record with her. Snoop, real name Calvin Broadus, said: "She's a great artist. I'm looking forward to going into the studio with her. Why not?
"We're going to get our minds together and figure out what we're going to sing about. I'm down with that. There isn't much I can't do."
Snoop also suggested he could replace Simon Cowell when he quits talent show American Idol after the current series ends. He said: "I think I would be perfect. I understand the dynamics of music and see stars before they are made."
Snoop - who has drugs and firearms convictions - also vowed to return to Britain now that his 2006 visa ban has been overturned.
He was barred after a Heathrow Airport brawl, but two London judges quashed the ban earlier this year.
Snoop said: "I have been re-instated and I am on my way back to the UK. There was no way to keep me out." |

| Snoop Dogg creates 'man cave' in his house | | | IANS | Thursday, 01 April , 2010, 11:03 | | | Rapper Snoop Dogg has created a 'man cave' in his house and it is off-limits for women and children.
The rapper hired a company to create a panic room like retreat which is open to only his friends, reported contactmusic.com. "They come over and they put it together and they put a code on your door...It's a code that only you know, you got to have the door - it's the first thing to the man cave. If you've got a door that's opening and closing, it's not a man cave," said Snoop Dogg. | | | |

SNOOP DOGG may be announcing new gigs in the UK after immigration judges ruled he could reapply for a visa. He had to cancel shows in 2007, including one at Glasgow's SECC with P Diddy, after he was stopped from entering the country. Now a tribunal has decided he had been peaceful during a fracas at Heathrow in 2006 - so he can apply for entry once again. |

Snoop Dogg And Kid Cudi Collaborate On 'That Tree' 'I did some more work on it and that's why it's just coming out now,' producer Diplo says of track.
Snoop Dogg just released his Malice N Wonderland album late last year, but that's not stopping the West Coast MC from teaming up with Kid Cudi and hipster producer Diplo for his new single "That Tree" for his follow-up LP More Malice. The album is slated to hit shelves on March 23.
The track is a trippy mix of descending drum rolls as Snoop comically rhymes "groupies on my head like a kufi" until Kid Cudi's voice begins the melodious hook.
"Everything I'm having no it ain't necessity/ Though I'm shining, keep on grinding/ What you see ain't all of me," Cudi sings over organs.
As enjoyable as the song is, Diplo, the cut's producer (who has also worked with M.I.A. and Santigold), had no idea the two rappers were even recording the track.
"I've known Snoop's manager Ted Chung for a while and I actually met Snoop through the Swedish singer Robyn at the Grammys last year," Diplo recalled. "We exchanged information because he'd heard of me and I kept in touch. When Ted came around asking for beats, I didn't have any so I gave him some small loops and Ted actually just looped the loops over again."
Diplo never heard anything more about the beats until late one night during another recording session with Kid Cudi.
"Cudi was like, 'I just did a track with Snoop over your beat.' And I was like, 'What are you talking about?' " Diplo told MTV News. "I had no idea that Ted had taken the small loops and they'd rapped on it, so Ted eventually sent me back a vocal and I kind of constructed a track around that."
Unfortunately, "That Tree" did not make the track listing for Malice N Wonderland.
"It didn't make that album because of deadlines and it wasn't in the right shape," Diplo said. "But they liked the track and really wanted to use it, so I did some more work on it and that's why it's just coming out now."

A 28-year-old woman was charged with theft of services late Sunday after she allegedly tried to sneak her way into the Snoop Dogg show at the Town Ballroom by feigning the need to go to the bathroom, according to Buffalo police reports.
Kristen Wright, no address listed, told an employee at the Main Street establishment that she needed to use the bathroom there at about 11:45 p. m. Wright was permitted entrance but then allegedly entered the sold-out show.
Central District police were called, and Wright was arrested. |
